Life Expectancy Calculator

This calculator translates official U.S. period life table values into plain language. It is useful for perspective, retirement planning conversations, and understanding averages, but it should never be treated as a personal prediction.

What the calculator uses

The estimate uses the 2023 Social Security Administration actuarial life table used in the 2026 Social Security Trustees Report. The table gives remaining life expectancy by exact age and sex for a hypothetical group experiencing that period's mortality rates.

Because the source table is split into male and female columns, the calculator asks for sex in the same simple structure. It does not ask about health history, income, family background, geography, or habits.

How to read the result

The main number is the average number of additional years someone your age and selected sex would live if the life table applied exactly. The weeks, months, seasons, and paychecks are translations of that same estimate.

The timeline is meant to make the average easier to understand. It is not a countdown, diagnosis, forecast, or promise.

Questions

Is this a death date calculator?

No. It shows a statistical average from a public life table. Individual lives vary widely.

Why does sex matter in the calculator?

The official table reports different mortality patterns for male and female populations, so the lookup needs the same input.
